How to Tighten the Belt on a NordicTrack Walkfit

The NordicTrack Walkfit treadmill, no longer available in retail stores, was one of the few treadmills to offer swinging handlebars or ski machine-style cords for upper body resistance. The Walkfit is a manual treadmill, although some versions had a motorized mode, too, with a maximum speed of 4 mph.

When using the Walkfit in manual mode, you can adjust its resistance by twisting a resistance knob, located either in the corner of the console or on the upright support. If the treadmill belt slips from side to side, you need to adjust its tension via bolts located in the back of the machine frame.

Step 1

Find the treadmill adjustment bolts in the rear end of the treadmill frame, to either side of the belt.

Step 2

Insert an Allen wrench into each bolt, one at a time, and turn each bolt a quarter-turn clockwise.

Step 3

Slip one hand between the belt and the treadmill deck. If this doesn't pull the treadmill belt taut, it's still too loose. Tighten the bolts another quarter-turn.

Step 4

Continue testing the belt tension, then adjusting the bolts as needed, until the belt is just loose enough for you to slip your hand between it and the deck with no extra slack.

Step 5

Step onto the treadmill and walk. The belt shouldn't bind or slip side to side. If it does, dismount and re-adjust the bolts until the belt tracks correctly.
