While there are many medical treatments for certain skin ailments available from doctors and dermatologists, these remedies often have potential side effects and high prices. However, there are some natural Ayurvedic remedies that can help get rid of common skin problems or just simply make your skin look healthier. These treatments have not been approved by the FDA so consult your doctor before starting any new treatments.
Castor Oil and Papaya Juice for Dark Spots on the Skin
According to Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care," a mixture of castor oil and natural papaya juice can be applied to the skin as a topical treatment for dark spots.
To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. castor oil with 1 tbsp. papaya juice and stir thoroughly to combine. Gently massage a small amount of the mixture onto the skin and leave it on for 45 to 60 minutes or until it is nearly dry. Rinse the skin with cool, clean water and wash with a gentle cleanser after the allotted time and pat the skin dry with a clean towel or disposable cloth.
This treatment can be repeated in the morning and evening unless it causes irritation, and unused portions of the mixture can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 72 hours.
Castor Oil and Ghee For Younger, Healthier Looking Skin
According to Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies," a mixture of castor oil and ghee can help the skin look younger and healthier. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. castor oil with 1 tbsp. melted ghee and stir to combine. Massage a thick layer of the mixture onto the skin for 4 to 5 minutes and leave it on for one hour before rinsing the skin with cool water and washing with a mild cleanser.
This treatment can be repeated once per day as long as it does not cause redness, an allergic reaction or breakouts. Unused portions of this mixture can be kept in the refrigerator for five days, but it should be brought back to room temperature before use.
Castor Oil and Mint Essential Oil to Fight Wrinkles
According to Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies," a mixture of castor oil and mint essential oil can be used as a natural anti-aging treatment to help fight wrinkles. To make and use this mixture, combine 4 tbsp. castor oil and 1/2 tbsp. mint essential oil in a small bottle or jar and shake or stir to combine. Gently massage a thick layer of the mixture onto the wrinkled skin and leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing with cool, clean water. There is no need to wash with soap unless the mixture irritates your skin. Unused portions of this mixture will keep for 30 days in a cool, dark place if necessary.
