How to Use a Sonic Toothbrush

Sonic toothbrushes are a new advance in dental hygiene technology. Sonic toothbrushes are designed to be able to clean in an area beyond the reach of the bristles. Sonic toothbrushes have bristles that vibrate extremely fast (tens of thousands of vibrations per minute) and are modeled on toothbrushes that dentists use for clinical purposes. The motion of these bristles causes fluid (such as saliva) to move around and dislodge plaque from the teeth.

Step 1

Prepare the brush of the sonic toothbrush. The Sonicare website recommends that you do this by moistening the bristles under running water for a few seconds, then putting toothpaste on the bristles.

Step 2

Position the toothbrush. According to the Sonicare website, you should place the head of the brush at about a 45-degree angle from your gums, and then turn the sonic toothbrush on (using the power button). Keep as many bristles in contact with your teeth as possible by adjusting the angle as necessary.

Step 3

Begin brushing. Move the sonic brush in a circular motion (keeping the bristles in contact with the teeth), focusing on one tooth at a time. This will allow the sound waves from the sonic brush to get in between the teeth and all the way to the gum line. Do this on each tooth for two seconds, then move to the next one.

Step 4

After you are done brushing, rinse out your mouth with water. Rinse the bristles on the sonic toothbrush, making sure to get off all the toothpaste.

Step 5

Although you should check with your dentist on what dental hygiene you should follow, you should use the sonic toothbrush two times a day (morning and evening), in place of brushing with a regular toothbrush.
