The official rules of racquetball require you to use a strap to connect the racquet securely to your wrist to avoid loose flying racquets. Without the strap, the racket could cause serious injury if it were to slip. The strap may also be termed a tether, thong, cord, leash or strap. Be ready if playing in a tournament under official rules to attach a new strap if the old one breaks.
Step 1
Pull the broken strap out of the stalk in the handle via one of the holes in the base of the racquet.
Step 2
Bend a paperclip or piece of thin wire into a U-shape with a small hook on one end. Tie the end of the new strap to the hook of the clip or wire.
Step 3
Thread the wire through the stalk. Pull the wire using needle-nose pliers through the stalk, bringing the new strap along behind the wire.
Step 4
Pull the ends of the strap until the ends are even. Hold the ends together and tie them into a simple overhand knot about an inch from the bottom.
Tips and Warnings
- Alternatively use fishing line tied to one end of the strap and threaded through the handle to attach a new strap. Or push the cord end in and fish it out from under the stalk with a paperclip with its end fished into a hook shape.
