The NordicTrack Apex 6100 has a larger-than-average 22-inches by 60-inches running surface, a 3.0 horsepower continuous-duty motor, a maximum belt speed of 10 mph and a user weight limit of 300 lbs. Although it's no longer in production, you may still find used models for sale.
Other features of note include a built-in heart rate monitor and iFit interactivity, which lets you connect your treadmill to a computer, CD player or television and VCR. You insert a pre-programmed CD or tape, then follow along with the recorded personal trainer as the treadmill adjusts speed and incline automatically.
Step 1
Place your feet on the treadmill deck to either side of the belt. Insert the treadmill key all the way into the slot at the near edge of the treadmill console. Attach the key clip to your waistband. If you slip or fall, the clip will pull the key out of the slot, stopping the treadmill.
Step 2
Press "Select Workout" until your desired workout shows in the main display. If you want to control the treadmill's speed and incline yourself, select manual mode. If no other keys have been pressed, the treadmill will automatically default to manual mode when it's turned on. If you're doing a pre-programmed workout, select the type of workout you want--for example, weight loss--then press "Select Course" until the desired course appears.
Step 3
Press "Start." The treadmill belt will start moving. Step onto the belt and walk, then use the Speed + or - keys, or touch a 1-step speed button, to adjust the treadmill speed. Adjust incline the same way, using the Incline + and - keys or the 1-step incline buttons. If you're using a pre-programmed workout, the treadmill will make these adjustments automatically.
Step 4
Step off the treadmill belt onto the side rails once you're done working out. Press "Stop" to stop the treadmill belt. Remove the key from the console to keep children from activating the treadmill.
Tips and Warnings
- The Apex 6100 has a built-in heart rate monitor. To use it, grasp the metal contacts on the console handrails for about 15 seconds. Your hands must wrap all the way around both the bottom and top contacts. If you're using a pre-programmed workout, you can still manually adjust speed and incline settings with the console buttons. But every time the workout moves on to a new time segment, the treadmill will reset speed and incline to the pre-programmed values. If the treadmill doesn't start, check to make sure it's plugged into a wall socket.
