While hair loss is commonly considered a normal part of aging, it can be traumatic and embarrassing for many people, especially women, whose rate of hair loss is lower than men's. However, there are some natural home remedies that can help both men and women to re-grow hair. These treatments have not been approved by the FDA though, so talk with your doctor before starting any new hair care regimen.

Evening Primrose Essential Oil and Jojoba Oil

According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy," a mixture of evening primrose essential oil and jojoba oil can be applied to the help to restart hair growth. To make and use this treatment, combine 1 tbsp. evening primrose oil with 10 tbsp. jojoba oil in a bottle and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds to combine. Gently massage a small amount of the mixture onto your wet scalp and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse your hair with cool water and wash with your regular shampoo and conditioner before letting your hair dry naturally. This treatment can be repeated daily as long as it does not cause any sort of irritation to the scalp. Unused portions will keep in a cool, dark place such as a medicine cabinet for one month.

Myrtle Essential Oil, Carrot Root Essential Oil and Coconut Oil

According to Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care," a mixture of myrtle essential oil, carrot root essential oil and coconut oil can be used as a topical treatment to re-grow hair. To use this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. myrtle essential oil, ½ tbsp. carrot root essential oil and 10 tbsp. coconut essential oil in a small jar or bottle and shake or stir to combine. Gently massage a small amount of the mixture onto your scalp and leave it on for 20 to 25 minutes. Rinse the scalp with cool water and wash with a gentle moisturizing shampoo. This treatment can be used daily as long as it doesn't bother your scalp or skin. Unused portions can be kept in a cool, dark place for 30 days.

Helichrysum Essential Oil and Olive Oil

According to Colleen Kaye Dodt, author of "The Essential Oils Book: Creating Personal Blends for Mind & Body," a mixture of helichrysum essential oil an olive oil can be applied to the roots of the hair and scalp to help restart hair growth. To make this mixture, combine ½ tsp. helichrysum essential oil and 4 tbsp. olive oil in a small bottle with a tight-fitting lid and shake it vigorously to combine the ingredients. Gently massage a small amount of this mixture onto the roots of the hair and scalp and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing with clean water and washing with a gentle shampoo. This treatment can be repeated daily unless it irritates your scalp or skin, and unused portions will keep in a cool, dark and dry place for one month.
