Home Remedies for Internal Cleansing

Internal cleansing of the body might be undertaken for several reasons. The bowels may be flushed out to remove accumulated matter or relieve constipation. Arteries with plaque build-up may benefit from remedies that reduce lipids and cholesterol in the bloodstream. The liver can accumulate fat and toxins which can be removed to improve its function. Flax Seed

Flax is a plant that was used by ancient Egyptians for fabric, medicine and food. Also known as linseed, the seeds of the flax plant have a laxative effect, making them suitable for cleansing the bowels, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The university further explains that another health benefit of flax seeds comes from the large amount of omega-3 acids present in them. Omega-3 acids can help lower high cholesterol and also possess some anti-cancer properties. The consumption of flax seeds should be undertaken with moderation as too many will produce stomach discomfort or diarrhea. Red Clover

Red Clover is a medicine used in the practice of Ayurveda, an Indian healing art. The University of Vermont's Ayurvedic Herbalism website states that herbal medicines such as red clover help rid the body of toxic buildup and waste products. Major organs such as the liver and lungs can benefit from the use of red clover to detoxify them, according to the university. Natural herbs such as red clover can have powerful effects on the body, so please under the guidance of a qualified medical practitioner.

Detox Diet

The American College of Healthcare Sciences' Gia von Karl, CAS, RH (AHG) recommends a detox diet to cleanse the body. This remedy is also based on ayurveda, but focuses more on an overall nutritional plan and exercise rather than a single ingredient. Main points include eating plenty of fruit, vegetables, legumes and seeds; consuming organic foods when practical; drinking plenty of filtered water; avoiding animal products in the diet; avoiding refined foods and stimulants; and exercising to stimulate the metabolism and encourage sweating. Sauna use, massages and other relaxation techniques used in tandem are also encouraged.
