The Migun bed is a device that uses heat and a series of moving knobs to massage the body as the user lies down on it. It was developed in Korea in the 1980s, and is now available at a number of specialized centers in the United States. The device has been studied for its therapeutic effects on certain medical conditions due to its similarities to other techniques such as acupressure and massage. Before using the Migun to treat any illness, please consult with your physician.

Boosts Immune System

A study performed by researchers at the University of California states that the Migun bed enhances immune function in healthy young adults and may be an aid in boosting the immune system in cancer and HIV patients. Therapy with the Migun bed increased both T and NK cell counts, and reduced the number of lymphocytes in those studied. The test group participated in 16 sessions lasting 20 minutes each over a period of two months. Although the results are encouraging, the researchers state that further testing on larger groups should be done.

Reduces Blood Pressure

A separate study by the University of California demonstrated that Migun massage therapy significantly decreased systolic and diastolic pressures in subjects taking medications for hypertension. Though the exact method by which this occurs is unknown, a possible relationship between the relaxation caused by the Migun and the lowering of blood pressure is suggested by the study, as exposure to stress produces hormonal changes which can cause hypertension. The heat aspect of the Migun is associated with pain relief, further reducing muscle spasms and tension that contribute to high blood pressure.

Lowers Blood Sugar

The same study that shows positive effects on blood pressure also demonstrates positive effects on those suffering from Type II Diabetes. 100 percent of participants experienced a decrease in blood glucose levels after treatment with the Migun device, although the researchers state that the study group was small and further testing should be done. Although controlling blood glucose levels is of interest to diabetes sufferers, you should only use remedies such as the Migun under the care of your doctor.
