The quickest way to drop weight is by fasting. During a fast, you will only be consuming liquids. Fasting is an effective healing method for many disorders and ailments, and it is often used to rid the body of toxins. In addition to weight loss, the many benefits of fasting include increased energy, improved skin tone and a decrease or elimination of muscle and joint pain. Fresh juice fasting is gentler on the system and mentally easier to achieve than a water fast.

Step 1

Peel any vegetables or fruit that have been waxed or sprayed with pesticides. Waxed produce has a very shiny peel; cucumbers and apples are examples of foods that are frequently waxed.

Step 2

Prepare your juice. In order to extract juice from fruits and vegetables, you need a juicer. The most adept juicers are masticating juicers, which are named after their extremely effective chewing process. You also can use a centrifugal juicer, which extracts the juice with a spinning action.

Almost any fresh fruit or vegetable can be juiced, and a combination of fruits and vegetables, such as celery and apples, is even better. Sweet fruit juice, such as melon or pineapple, may raise your insulin levels; therefore it is advisable to mix these fruits with the juice of something less sweet, such as a grapefruit or cucumber.

Step 3

Drink your juice. Your juice should ideally be consumed immediately after juicing. Freshly squeezed juice is awash with healthy vitamins and enzymes, but if you leave the juice to sit, many of these will be destroyed due to oxidation. If you have no option other than to prepare your juice to drink later, place the juice in a container, preferably opaque glass, with an airtight lid. When possible, juice should be stored in a refrigerator. Juice can also be stored in a thermos flask.

Step 4

Drink more juice. You can drink as much juice as you wish while on a juice fast. Whenever you feel hungry, simply drink more. It will diminish your hunger and reduce any cravings. Vegetable juice will stabilize your blood sugar, so if you are craving unhealthy foods, opt for vegetable juice instead of a sweet fruit juice.

Tips and Warnings

  • Continue to include fresh juice and abundant raw foods and vegetables in your diet when you finish your juice fast. If you return to your old eating patterns, any weight you lost will quickly reappear. Initially, when embarking on a juice fast you will lose around 3 to 4 pounds per day depending on how overweight you are. This will slow to an average of 1 pound per day. The length of your fast will depend on how much weight you need to lose, and your mental ability to spend extended periods of time without solid food. Even a three-day juice fast will be beneficial and kick-start your weight-loss efforts. During the first few days of fasting, you will likely experience detox symptoms. The severity of the symptoms will depend on how unhealthy your regular diet has been. The symptoms will be similar to what you would experience if you had a mild flu. Introduce solid foods back into your diet slowly. When you begin to eat again, for the first days eat only raw fruits and vegetables. Eating unhealthy foods such as pizza when your body has become accustomed to juices will likely cause severe discomfort and stomach cramps. Drinking store-bought, packaged vegetable and fruit juices will not have the weight-loss and health benefits freshly squeezed juices provide. However, If during your fast freshly squeezed juice becomes unavailable, it's best to go with store-bought juice or a piece of fruit, rather than turning to another food.
  • There are a some circumstances that may render a juice fast for weight loss inadvisable. Certain medications, as well as the presence of some kidney and liver disorders, make juice fasting an unsuitable choice. Before embarking on a juice fast, consult with your medical practitioner.
