NeilMed Sinus Rinse is designed to irrigate the nasal passages and clear them of mucus, allowing nasal medication to work more effectively. It is also used to clean bacteria, viruses, allergens and irritants from the nose with the intent of reducing infections. Consisting of a saline-based powder that is mixed freshly for each use, NeilMed Sinus Rinse is advertised as safe for all ages but does offer a concentration specifically for children. The starter kit contains everything you need for your first nasal irrigation.
Step 1
Wash your hands with soap and hot water; rinse thoroughly.
Step 2
Fill the NeilMed nasal irrigation bottle with 8 oz. of lukewarm distilled water.
Step 3
Snip a corner off the packet of NeilMed premixed nasal rinse powder and pour the powder into the bottle.
Step 4
Screw the cap and tube securely onto the top of the bottle and cover the tip of the tube with your finger. Shake gently until all of the powder has dissolved.
Step 5
Bend forward over the bathroom sink and tilt your head downward.
Step 6
Insert the tip of the bottle snugly into your right nostril. Keeping your mouth open, squeeze gently until the nasal solution drains either from your mouth or from your opposite nostril. Continue until 2 to 4 oz. of solution has been used.
Step 7
Sniff any remaining solution gently into your sinuses and then tilt your head to the opposite side and blow your nose gently, taking care not to pinch your nose. If any solution reaches the back of your throat, spit it out.
Step 8
Repeat the process with the remaining nostril, again using 2 to 4 oz. of the nasal rinse solution.
Step 9
Rinse the bottle, tube and cap and allow them to air dry until the next use.
Tips and Warnings
- Distilled water can be warmed in the microwave in 5 second increments until lukewarm. Check the water temperature by dripping a few drops onto your wrist. NeilMed Sinus Rinse may be used once or twice a day as a regular nasal cleaning routine.
