Qigong is an Eastern art of self-healing that is practiced for the purposes of attaining mental quiet and inner-balance. Practitioners enlist specific movements, meditations and breathing techniques that are intended to manipulate chi, which is said to be the cosmic energy from which all life is derived. Qigong philosophy states that chi flows continuously along certain channels throughout your body, called meridians. Any physical or mental exertion can supposedly deplete your store of this energy and block the channels by which it travels. Qigong is directed toward replenishing your life force and clearing the meridians in a way that re-establishes harmony among body, mind and spirit.

Spirit

Qigong teachings state that when the mind is at rest, the universe presents no harm. The practice encourages you to find peace first on the inside. Attaining inner stillness allows you to listen to your inner voice in a way that stimulates creativity and intuition. Qigong practitioners become deeply reflective, recognizing the connection between themselves and all things. This engenders compassion for others and acceptance of yourself.

Performance

Performing the meditations and movements of qigong requires you to develop a high degree of physiological and mental control. Breathing drills regulate blood pressure, heart rate, stress levels and temperament. As a result, your biochemistry becomes extremely operative. Skin clears, hair grows, energy increases and digestion improves. Releasing inner resistance allows you to approach important tasks with clear and concentrated effort. The mental peace attained through qigong also provides deep, revitalizing sleep.

Healing

Qigong movements improve circulation and stimulate the lymphatic system, aiding the removal of waste and pathogens from the blood. The various meditations withdraw tension from the muscles and tissues, allowing the body to more easily achieve its natural state of well-being. The breathing exercises in qigong promote proper respiration and help alleviate symptoms associated with asthma and bronchitis.

Conclusion

Qigong considers the individual as a whole. It is custom designed to enrich the quality of your life by replenishing the very source of your being. Qigong, to each, is his own journey. With practice and patience, you can find the path to inner balance and well-being.
