When you were a child, it was easy to tell if someone had a crush on you. Perhaps he pulled your hair, or teased you incessantly in front of you friends. Hopefully, as you've gotten older, you're not experiencing these types of behaviors from the person with a crush. However, you might find it difficult to tell if his behaviors indicate general friendliness, or romantic interest.

Step 1

Notice the person's body language. If he leans slightly toward you, cocks his head or touches your arm while talking to you, it may be a sign that he has a crush on you. According to Janet O'Neal in her book, "The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Art of Seduction," signs of flirting include making eye contact, keeping his hands relaxed and holding his palms out toward you.

Step 2

Observe how often she smiles. If she smiles frequently in your presence, it's likely that she's happy to be around you. According to psychologist Paul Richard Robbins, in his book "Romantic Relationships," smiles are a way for someone to indicate interest and availability.

Step 3

Consider how often he talks to you. If he has a crush on you, he'll try to start conversations with you whenever he has the chance. Watch to see if he tries to make you laugh, or pays you compliments. These are common flirting behaviors.

Step 4

Focus on how often she remembers what you say. If she remembers the little things you tell her, she likes you, according to author O'Neal. For example, if you tell her your all-time favorite movie, and she brings the DVD to your apartment on your next date, or she takes you to a restaurant you love, she's probably interested in you.

Step 5

Watch to see if he flirts with others. If he shows loyalty to you, and doesn't pursue other women, he probably likes you.

Step 6

Listen for whether she empathizes with your needs or problems. If she has a crush on you, she will support you when you tell her something distressing, or talk with her about a problem. She will try to bend over backward to help you.
