Loose body fat generally occurs when you have had a significant weight loss. Also, if you lost weight very quickly, the likelihood of loose skin increases. Since skin elasticity is lessened, it may appear that you have extra fat, but there are a variety of ways to take care of this. Depending on severity, you can use diet and exercise, or you may benefit from the services of a plastic surgeon.

Step 1

Maintain a diet that is low in fat, calories and sugar. Lean meats such as fish, chicken, tofu, egg whites and turkey provide protein that can help tighten your body after weight loss. Eat saturated fats, processed and canned foods, fried foods and sugary beverages and desserts sparingly.

Step 2

Drink plenty of water and eat foods that contain a lot of water. This hydrates skin, improves its appearance and promotes its elasticity. Drink a minimum of eight 8 oz glasses everyday. Foods that have a lot of water are celery, lettuce, pineapple and watermelons.

Step 3

Weight training will help tone up loose skin. It not only builds lean muscle tissue, but it will tighten the tissue underneath the loose skin. Aim for resistance training that includes lifting light weights with several repetitions. Do this at least three days a week.

Step 4

Massaging your loose skin helps to promote collagen production. This is what holds skin tissues together and keeps it elastic. A 15 minute daily massage will also slough away dead skin cells and promote better blood circulation. Improved circulation means that more oxygen and nutrients reach the skin's surface to keep it tight and healthy.

Step 5

Consider plastic surgery if your loose body fat is excessive. There are plenty of body contouring surgeries, including liposuction, tummy tuck and abdominoplasty that can significantly improve skin tightness. Consult a plastic surgeon to see about your options as well as cost, risks and benefits. This type of surgery is considered cosmetic by most insurance companies, so expect to pay out of pocket for all expenses.
