Anti-wrinkle cream advertisements and commercials touting that various potions and lotions can stop the aging process are a part of daily life. You may have heard of the most effective methods, including chemical peels, laser treatments, face-lifts and dermabrasion, but they are very expensive. Many home remedies are also available to help prevent and treat wrinkles, and they cost little to nothing.
Step 1
Consume a healthful antioxidant-rich diet to reduce wrinkles. A 2001 study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition states that diet plays a critical role in wrinkle prevention. Foods rich with Vitamin C, monounsaturated fats, zinc, selenium and iron promote smooth, healthy skin. Eat broccoli, avocados, blackberries, olive oil, spinach, Brazil nuts and fish for best wrinkle reduction.
Step 2
Workout daily to give your skin a youthful glow. A regular exercise program that gets your heart beating faster will promote sweating and better blood circulation, both of which are great for your skin. Any activity that you enjoy, such as walking, dancing, bicycling or swimming, will suffice. Aim for a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate exercise at least 4 days a week.
Step 3
Massage your face at least once or twice daily to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines. Mother Nature website states that 2 techniques in particular---patting and the wrinkle release---are effective at relaxing skin tissues and promoting better circulation. For patting, gently slap your face with the bottom of your fingers for 20 seconds. The wrinkle release involves placing pressure on your skin with your fingertips and massage in a circular motion down your face to the cheek then neck. Do this for at least a minute daily.
Step 4
Facial steaming is one of the simplest home methods for reducing wrinkles. Use a home facial steamer, or you may simply use a pot of boiling water. If using the former, fill the reservoir with water and let it heat up until steam appears. If you are using a pot of water, bring it to a boil and turn off the stove; be careful not to touch the pot. Drape a towel over your head and lean into the steam. The steam will penetrate your skin, open up pores and cleanse dirt, oil, makeup and other impurities out of your system. Do this for 5 to 10 minutes daily.
