Going beyond the basics when jumping on a trampoline involves learning new acrobatic moves. Always wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily and jump in stocking feet rather than shoes. To jump safely on a trampoline and get the most height, you need to use the correct posture. Keep both your abdomen and bottom tucked when you jump, and let the trampoline and your body's momentum lift you naturally.

Step 1

Start your trampoline-jumping on a small scale. Practice with small jumps so you can get used to the up-and-down motion and the flexibility of the trampoline.

Step 2

Flex your leg and hip muscles, warming them up before you start practicing higher jumps. As you jump, propel your body up into the air using your leg muscles. When you land, pay attention to the position of your feet. They should land flat on the trampoline. Let your knees bend, as the trampoline takes the force of your weight and your landing.

Step 3

Use momentum to propel you into higher jumps. Use your arms for balance, holding them straight out at your sides. Work to stay as close to the center of the trampoline as you can.

Step 4

Keep your feet and legs spread slightly apart as you land and bring them together when you fly into the air.

Step 5

Use the strength of your legs along with your momentum as you rebound from the trampoline to propel you higher. Make sure your spotter stays right next to the trampoline to add an element of safety as you practice jumping higher.

Tips and Warnings

  • To stop jumping, bend your legs when you land and let your body bend into your landing. Once you've gotten comfortable with higher trampoline jumps, start practicing simple stunts.
  • Don't ever try to jump on a trampoline without a spotter present.

Things You'll Need

  • Safety spotter
