Shea butter is a soft beige creamy solid that readily melts and quickly absorbs into the skin. It is rich in vitamin A and is a superb moisturizer. Shea butter is derived from the seed of the shea tree, also known as the karite tree. The seeds are picked, cracked, grilled, pounded and then boiled for hours to extract the shea butter. The butter is then scooped out and cooled. Shea butter is used in many beauty and hair care products, because of the many benefits it provides. Apply the shea directly from the container to your head or melt it with a few drops of virgin coconut or olive oil to make it easier to apply.

Moisturizer

Shea butter is a natural condition for your hair. It provides moisture to your hair from the roots to the tips. Because it is rich in vitamins A and E and soothes dryness, it aids in repairing breakage and split ends. Shea butter also restores moisture lost due to constant blow-drying, hot ironing and chemical treatments such as perms and relaxers. It is non-greasy, so it can be used as a leave-in moisturizer. Make sure you use 100 percent pure shea butter without chemical additives or preservatives in order to get optimal benefits. Once refined, shea butter loses all of its healing properties but retains its moisturizing qualities.

Hair Protectorant

Shea butter protects your hair from free radicals in the air and water, exposure to the weather and extreme dryness. It shields your hair from sun damage due to exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Shea butter also repairs damage to the hair due to weather and sun damage. To apply, put shea butter on your damp hair and scalp and sit under a dryer for 10 minutes.

Soothes Scalp

Shea butter relieves dry scalp, eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis. Shea butter absorbs completely and quickly into the scalp without leaving a greasy residue, clogging the pores or creating a buildup of dandruff or oil. Apply shea butter to your dry scalp and hair after shampooing and comb through for soft and shiny hair.
