Warts, which are characterized by a small growth on the surface of your skin, are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). This particular virus causes a protein in the epidermis of your skin called keratin to grow too quickly. Warts are usually contracted through skin to skin contact. Towels and shoes may also carry HPV, according to Medical News Today.

Genital warts, which are another form of HPV, are spread through sexual contact. Warts may be treated with salicylic acid, cryotherapy with nitrogen, duct tape, surgery and lasers. One home remedy that people use to treat warts is vinegar. Consult a dermatologist before you treat a wart with vinegar.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Step 1

Soak a cotton ball with apple cider vinegar.

Step 2

Apply the cotton ball to the wart, then cover with an adhesive bandage.

Step 3

Change the cotton ball and bandage each evening. Leave the treatment on 24 hours a day, and in a week or two, the wart should be gone.

White Vinegar

Step 1

Mix together equal parts white vinegar and lukewarm water in a bowl.

Step 2

Soak your wart in the white vinegar/water solution for 20 minutes per day.

Step 3

Inspect your wart daily to see how the vinegar solution is working, and stop the treatment once it is gone.
