"Couples who implement massages into their relationship often report that they feel closer to their partners," says sex therapist Simridhi Siddique on The Times of India website. Sensual massage also encourages sexual desire, helps eliminate negative feelings and can help build love and trust in a relationship, Siddique offers. If you'd like to try your hand at sensual massage on a special woman, remember to create a little ambiance before you start, and don't forget to ask her to tell you exactly what she likes.

Step 1

Create a sensual atmosphere. Make sure the area is warm and free of clutter or distracting noise, such as the TV. Dim the lights, and light a few scented candles. Play soft music.

Step 2

Set up a foam mat, mattress, soft rug or folded blankets on the floor. Cover your massage surface with clean sheets. You need a firm base and room to move around her body, and massaging on the bed may not provide enough support, says Nitya Lacroix, author of "Sensual Massage: An Intimate and Practical Guide to the Art of Touch." Have a few pillows on hand in case she wants one for her head or knees, as well as a towel to wipe up excess massage oil and an extra sheet in case parts of her body get cold during the massage.

Step 3

Ask her to lay on her back and get comfortable. Pour some massage oil in your hands, and rub them together to warm the oil before touching her body.

Step 4

Begin by massaging her abdomen. Keep your fingers together, and use the entire surface of your hands to lightly stroke the middle of her body. Put your hands on either side of her belly button, then slowly slide them across her belly. Starting the massage in the center of her body will spread relaxation and warmth evenly in all directions, says Gordon Inkeles, author of "The Art of Sensual Massage."

Step 5

Massage her arms, hands and shoulders. Use long, slow strokes up and down her arms. Use your thumbs and fingertips to rub in circles. Do the same with her legs. Stroke each individual toe on her feet.

Step 6

Ask her to turn over, then begin massaging her back. Use the palms of your hands to make large circles on her back. Trace your fingers down each side of her spine.

Step 7

Put your fingertips together, and press up from the base of her neck to soothe the muscles in her neck, which can bear a lot of body tension, says Inkeles. Rub your fingers up and down her neck like a piston. Use opposing circular movements.

Step 8

Stroke her earlobes, and use your fingertips to massage her scalp. Then work your way back down her body, massaging the backs of her arms and legs and her hips and buttocks. Trace swerving zig-zags up and down her body. Lightly run your fingernails over her skin. Don't stop the massage abruptly; instead, let it taper out. End with a kiss on the neck or the palm of her hand.

Tips and Warnings

  • Keep your massage strokes rhythmic, even and symmetrical, advises Inkeles. Try to make your movements blend together into one fluid motion. Ask her to tell you what strokes she likes best and when to apply more or less pressure. Use more massage oil as needed.
  • Don't attempt to massage a woman if she has a skin infection, severe back pain or any kind of contagious sickness, warns Lacroix.
