What is Vaniqa Cream?

Vaniqa is a cream used to remove women's unwanted facial hair. As the only Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved medication for the reduction of facial hair, Vaniqa is available by prescription only. Over-the-counter depilatory creams only softens hair for easy removal, while Vaniqa also helps prevent facial hair from growing back.

Availability

Available in cream form, Vaniqa is for topical application, not for internal use or use on mucous membranes.

Application

Apply a thin layer of Vaniqa cream to hair growth areas of the face and under the chin, and rub into skin. Avoid washing skin for at least four hours after application.

Storage

Store medication at room temperature.

Duration

Use medication twice daily for six to eight weeks to achieve a decrease in unwanted facial hair. Approximately eight weeks after discontinuing Vaniqa, hair will resume pre-treatment growth. Continued use of the product is necessary to retain results.

Alternate Hair Removal

Vaniqa affects the hair follicle during the growth phase. Until achieving desired results, continue using alternate means of hair removal---such as shaving or plucking---in conjunction with the cream.

Side Effects

Side effects of Vaniqa include stinging, burning or irritation at the site of application. The side effects usually decrease with continued use.
