Adrenaline junkies continue to evolve with each generation. If surfing is popular one season, then the dudes take it from the waves to the half pipe in the next season. The classic ways to have a thrill will always remain, but each generation has proven that it isn't closed-minded to changing things up. The surest example of this today is the RipStik, a hybrid of snowboarding, skateboarding and even surfing. Fortunately for newcomers, the trend isn't all that difficult to pick up on.
Step 1
Place the RipStik on a flat surface that is free of debris. With your hands against a wall or railing, put your front foot on the front section of the board, also known as the nose. Then, give yourself a strong push with your back foot and step on the back of the board, also known as the tail.
Step 2
Recover your balance and stabilize your feet. Then, twist your hips with long, smooth gyrations to pick up speed. It should feel like snowboarding or longboarding, not skateboarding. Do not step off the RipStik or try to push with your back foot.
Step 3
Turn the board right by leaning toward your toe with your front foot. Turn left by leaning toward your heel. The front foot determines the direction of the turn, while the back foot determines the amount of the turn. Lean the back foot in the opposite direction of the front foot to determine the severity of the turn.
Step 4
Come to a stop on the RipStik by bringing the board to a standing position and step off. The board will not go anywhere because it cannot be upright on its own. Take a few steps after stepping off to slow yourself down, if you have built up some speed.
