How to Get Rid of Varicose Veins Without Surgery

Varicose veins are larger-than-normal, sometimes twisted-looking veins that bulge out from the body. The result of weak veins, varicose veins are common as people age. Some women develop varicose veins during pregnancy due to the added pressure put on the body. The condition is painful at times, and many people find the appearance of the veins to be unsightly. In severe cases, surgery can be done to repair or remove the affected veins, but varicose veins can be reduced without resorting to surgery.

Step 1

Wear compression socks or stockings to help reduce the pain and bulging of varicose veins. Compression garments provide firm support and encourages blood flow to the affected areas of your limbs, which can reduce the swelling of the veins and make them less noticeable.

Step 2

Undergo sclerotherapy treatments. Sclerotherapy involves introducing a solution to the affected veins through injections. The medication produces scars and cause the varicose veins to close up. The Mayo Clinic explains that the veins will gradually fade over the course of a few weeks.

Step 3

Undergo laser treatments that cause varicose veins to close up and disappear. Laser techniques of this kind are sometimes referred to as laser surgery, but the procedure is non-invasive and involves strong, bright beams of light.

Tips and Warnings

  • Prevent pooling of blood in your legs by moving around at least every half hour when sitting for long stretches, getting some regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight. Buy compression socks or stockings at a medical supply store or at a drugstore.
