Television viewers since 2002 have become acquainted with the commercials featuring "Smiling Bob"--the spokesperson for Enzyte. The commercial makes the connection between Bob's ear-to-ear grin and the sexual enhancement delivered by his regimen of Enzyte consumption. Enzyte, released in 2002, contains a formula of niacin, zinc, copper and the company's proprietary blend of herbs--including horny goat weed, yohimbe, maca root, saw palmetto berry and tribulus terrestris. Enzyte is an herbal supplement and has not been reviewed by the Food and Drug Administration. Before taking Enzyte, consult your doctor.

Erectile Dysfunction Treatment

The National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse reports that issues with proper blood flow to the penis are the most likely causes of erectile dysfunction. The inability to transfer blood to the genitals prevents nerve impulses from responding to stimulus and gain an erection. The Yohimbe extract in Enztye is believed to block a specific neurotransmitter. On the website ThirdAge, dietitian Karen Schroeder writes that when these transmitters are blocked, the parasympathetic nervous system kicks in and directs blood to the penis.

Increased Sex Drive

Most of the herbs in Enzyte focus on enhancing a man's libido. Tribulis terrestris boosts testosterone levels in men. Body Building For You and Vitamin Stuff both report that tribulus terrestris increases production of the luteinizing hormone. This hormone increases sperm count and motility and assists the body in the secretion of more testosterone. Increased levels of the male hormone can help the body gain erections easier. Maca root, another ingredient, has a similar effect. Vitamin Stuff reports that maca acts as a hormone balancer and assists the body in producing more testosterone to meet the body's needs.

Enhanced Penis Size

According to a 2007 report issued by British researchers, only 55 percent of men are satisfied with their penis size and 12 percent of men believe their penis is too small. Penial size and erectile dysfunction share a similar barrier--blood flow. Yohimbe, gingko biloba, ginseng, tribulus terrestris each increase blood flow by dilating blood vessels and carrying blood to capillaries. Enzyte's product website states that it helps men achieve stronger, more powerful erections.
