Thigh Toner Exercise

Toning your thighs can give you health and beauty benefits. The majority of women have some cellulite on their thighs and are looking for ways to improve this unwelcome sight. Using exercises to tone your thighs can help with the appearance of cellulite and build strength in your legs for working out or playing sports. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, building strength in your muscles helps your joints and your bones.

Benefits of Muscle

Doing regular exercise helps keep the muscles in your body tight and reduces fat. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that strong muscles speed up your metabolism and burn more calories. You will have less fat if your cells are burning calories instead of storing them in fat cells. Muscle strengthening gives you a toned look.

Build Strength

Strength training can help improve your muscle tone and make you feel good. You can build strength in your thighs with little or no equipment. Use your body's weight and resistance to do exercises that benefit your thighs, such as squats. To do a squat, stand with your feet shoulder width apart and lower your body as though you are going to sit down in a chair. Lower your body until your knees reach a 90 degree angle and then raise your body back up. Rest and repeat.

Cellulite

Cellulite is fat deposits that are close enough to the surface of your skin that they are visible to the eye. You can get cellulite on your buttocks, hips or thighs. Cellulite is not unhealthy and is not only found on fat people or women. Thin people have fat below their skin and can get cellulite the same as overweight people. According to the Mayo Clinic you cannot prevent getting cellulite but you can try to reduce your fat and exercise regularly to tone and strengthen your muscles.

At Home

You can do exercises at home to tone your thighs to help them look and feel the way you desire. Without having to take extra time to get dressed for the gym or travel there, you can take a few minutes at home and do your workout. A good exercise to do at home is a lunge, where you step out in front of your body with one leg and foot and then while stationary drop the other knee down until it is almost touching the ground. You repeat this movement, raising and lowering the knee, and then do it on the other side.

In the Gym

Your gym will have machines you can use to tone your thighs. You can take exercise classes that work your leg muscles or work out with a personal trainer. A leg press machine is a good exercise for all the muscles in your thighs. You sit on the machine and use your legs to push against the weighted platform on the machine for 12 to 15 repetitions.
