A Tech Deck is a finger skateboard. These resemble conventional skateboards, but they're miniature and you "ride" them with your fingers instead of feet. Learning Tech Deck tricks are challenging--but you will have better flexibility and dexterity. And Tech Deck maneuvers are eye-catching. The most important trick to learn in skateboarding is the "ollie," and this extends to Tech Deck boards as well. Once you learn the ollie, you can move on to more complex tricks that use the ollie as part of their technique.

The "Ollie"

Step 1

Place your index and middle fingers on the Tech Deck with the middle finger on the tail of the board and the index finger in the middle of the board. This is the standard Tech Deck stance and is appropriate for beginning an "ollie." The ollie is a skateboard jump.

Step 2

Roll the Tech Deck along any surface. The index finger will lead the tail of the board. To ollie, you do not need to roll quickly or cover a lot of ground. Start with a simple roll.

Step 3

Push down on the tail of the Tech Deck with your middle finger. This will pop the board up.

Step 4

Slide your index finger up along the board toward its front while it pops up at an angle. This is important as it maintains contact with the board while also getting the index finger out of the way so the board has room to leap into the air.

Step 5

Follow the board back to the surface while your fingers never stop touching the Tech Deck. Once the board is in the air, the ollie is mostly complete. You just need to make sure you land with your fingers still on the board. Let the board fall naturally.

Pop Shuvit

Step 1

Position your fingers on the Tech Deck in the standard starting position.

Step 2

Roll the Tech Deck along a surface.

Step 3

The Pop Shuvit is a 180 degree turn of the board in the air during a jump.

Step 4

Slide on the tail of the Tech Deck with your middle finger, pushing away from you parallel to the riding surface. The middle finger starts the ollie--but as soon as the board lifts off, the middle finger pushes it into a rotation along its vertical axis.

Step 5

Push or "pop" the Tech Deck back onto the surface as soon as it completes a 180 degree turn. You should use both fingers for this to ensure the board doesn't start to rotate along a different axis.
