Home Remedies for Menstrual Bloating Relief

Many women experience symptoms such as bloating during their menstrual cycle. But it is one of the milder symptoms, and it is more of an annoyance than a disability. However, there are steps you can take to alleviate the bloating.

Step 1

Take a hot (but not steaming) bath with 1 cup Epsom salts or 2 cups apple cider vinegar. The Epsom salts or vinegar act detoxing agents to pull out excess water and toxins that may be causing bloating.

Step 2

Avoid caffeine and salt. Caffeine and salt cause the body to hold on to extra fluid. If you're an avid coffee drinker, drink green tea instead. Instead of having your normal salty snack, eat a piece of fresh fruit.

Step 3

Drink more water. Although it seems counterintuitive, drinking additional water helps your body to expel excess water. It is recommended that you drink eight 8 oz. glasses (64 oz. total) of water per day; drink four additional glasses (an additional 32 oz.).

Step 4

Take an over-the-counter diuretic, such as Diurex. Diuretics are designed help your body rid itself of extra fluid. Follow the dosage recommendations to avoid dehydration.

Step 5

Exercise for 20 to 30 minutes per day. Exercising causes your body to sweat, which will cause some of the fluid to dissipate.

Things You'll Need

  • Epsom salts or apple cider vinegar
  • Diurex or other over-the-counter diuretic
