Instead of flowers, candy or a night out on the town, give your significant other a romantic warm stone massage for her next birthday, anniversary or holiday gift. After her turn is over, she can return the favor for a memorable, bonding experience. Accentuate the evening by decorating the room with scented candles and fresh flowers and by playing soft, calming music throughout the massage.
Step 1
Collect 20 to 25 stones of varying shapes and sizes. Find smooth, flat and round stones near a local river, or purchase black volcanic rock formations called basalt stones from online spa supply retailers.
Step 2
Coat the stones with a thin layer of a natural carrier oil, such as extra virgin olive oil or jojoba oil, or with a commercially-prepared massage oil. If desired, add two to three drops of your favorite essential oil, such as sandalwood or lavender essential oil, to the carrier oil and stir the mixture thoroughly before you dip the stones into the oil.
Step 3
Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F.
Step 4
Place the coated stones in a roasting pan, and pour two to three inches of water over the stones.
Step 5
Heat the stones for 10 to 15 minutes, until the stones are warm to the touch.
Step 6
Remove stones from roasting pan, and dry the stones off with a towel.
Step 7
Place a sheet over the back of the person ready to receive the massage.
Step 8
Place one warm stone on the lower back of the massage recipient to test the temperature of the stone. If the stone is not warm enough, re-heat all of the stones for five to ten additional minutes. If the stone is too warm, allow all of the stones to cool in three to five minute intervals until comfortable to the person's touch.
Step 9
Arrange the stones along the spine, shoulders, neck and lower back of the massage recipient. Place any remaining small stones on the soles of the person's feet.
Step 10
Gently massage the person's arms, hands, legs and feet with steady, smooth strokes while the warm stones rest on the person's body.
Step 11
Remove the cooled stones and gently knead the person's back, shoulders and scalp to complete the massage.
