A folding bike is essentially the same as a regular bike, only it has hinges in certain spots that enable you to fold it. Commuters use folding bikes as a means of getting to and from the train or subway station, with the advantage being they can fold their bike up and carry it with them to work. Most folding bikes collapse into the size of a standard suitcase. Several brands and models of folding bikes are available, but most fold and unfold in the same fashion.
Unfolding
Step 1
Flip the quick-release lever that is located under the saddle of the bike and lift the saddle into its upright position. Lock the lever into place.
Step 2
Pull the handlebars out and up. Ensure the hinge is secured by a clamp or screw, or whichever method your brand of folding bike uses to secure the handlebars.
Step 3
Unfold the pedals into their proper position. Secure them using the method outlined by your folding bike manufacturer.
Step 4
Tip the bike back slightly and unfold the front wheel. Secure the hinge clamp on the main frame of the bike and let the rear wheel swing open and into place.
Folding
Step 1
Lift the frame of the bike to allow the back wheel to swing around and lie beside the frame.
Step 2
Unscrew the hinge clamp on the frame, then swing the front wheel around so it lies next to the back wheel.
Step 3
Unscrew the clamp at the handlebar base and fold the handlebars down into position.
Step 4
Undo the lever underneath the saddle and completely push it down. Reclamp the seat pillar by tightening the lever under the saddle if you want to use the saddle as a handle to carry the bike.
