When removing body hair, there are many different treatments options that you may consider. The cost of treatment plays an important role in deciding which method to choose. At home methods typically costs less, but over the years the price will add up. If you want to remove that unwanted hair for good, consider these costs and determine which option would be the best for you.

Shaving

According to Zommerang hair removal survey done in May 2008, "women spend around $15.87 per month on shaving, that adds up to $10,207 total investment for their lifetime." These costs could include purchasing disposable razors, shaving creams and gels, and electric razors. For men, shaving as a hair removal method can be a daily battle. Women could last a few days without having to pick up that razor again.

Waxing

According to the Zoomerang hair removal survey done in May 2008, "women who wax will spend an average of $23,000 on waxing, and respondents reported this with waxing only one or two times a month." You can choose to have a professional cosmetologist perform the waxing, or buy waxing kits for yourself at home. Waxing kits can range from $25 to $100. Professionals can charge anywhere from $8 to $100, all depending on what region of the body needs to be waxed.

Depilatory Products

"Depilatory is a chemical that removes hair by dissolving the hair at the skins surface," according to Depilatory.com. The chemical breaks down the protein structure of the hair, and makes it easily able to be wiped off the skin. One of the most common depilatory products is Nair. Depilatory products range from $4 to $12, and can include a cream or a spray on method to remove the hair.

Laser Hair Removal

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the 2009 average surgeon/physician fee for laser hair removal averaged $405 per treatment, and the annual spending on laser hair removal is $361,294,234. The cost of treatment may be less when purchased through a clinic that specializes with strictly laser hair removal, and specific skin treatments. A plastic surgeon or a dermatologist office may cost you more per treatment.

Electrolysis

"Most electrologists charge between $45 and $125 per hour," according to Hair Lasers.com. When comparing laser hair removal and electrolysis treatments on small areas of the body, such as the upper lip and bikini line, the costs are around the same ranging from $450 to $2,000. Since electrolysis is so time consuming and tedious, as you begin to treat larger areas, such as the back and full legs, the costs of electrolysis can range from $8,500 to $19,125 and laser treatment will range from $ 5,000 to $12,000.
