Advair Diskus 250 Side Effects

Advair is the brand name of an oral inhalation powder known generically as fluticasone propionate and salmeterol. The drug contains a corticosteroid, which is good for inflammation, and a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist, which helps to relax the bronchia. Advair is commonly used to treat symptoms of asthma and certain complications prevalent with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Asthma-Related Side Effects

There are several common side effects in those who suffer from asthma. Among these are inflammation and/or infection of the upper respiratory system; pharyngitis, which is a sore throat brought on by inflammation in the back of the throat; dysphonia or hoarseness; oral candidiasis or mouth infection; along with other symptoms such as bronchitis, cough, headaches, queasiness and vomiting.

COPD-Related Side Effects

In patients taking Advair for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, less than 3 percent experienced symptoms. Some side effects, such as oral candidiasis, headache, throat irritation and dysphonia, were typical of those taking the medication for asthma as well. Viral infection and musculoskeletal pain was also reported.

Interactive Side Effects

Those who take diuretics, beta blockers, ritonavir or other strong cytochrome inhibitors and Monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants may have side effects that include systemic corticosteroid and cardiovascular complications.
