Chasteberry is from a tree with the scientific name of Vitex agnus-castus. It has been referred to as the "chaste" tree for centuries because folklore has it that the chasteberry would help calm sexual desire. According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, it is also known as "monk's pepper," or "monk's tree," as monks were reported to have used it to help them remain pure. Today, extracts of the chasteberry are often used in many forms, and one of the most popular forms is chasteberry tea.
