A facial steamer is a small appliance that you fill with water to produce steam for facial treatments. Facial steamers are available as part of spa packages and for home use. Over time, a facial steamer can build up scales from the water and need to be cleaned. Keep your facial steamer in good working order by cleaning it regularly.
Step 1
Unplug your facial steamer and empty out the water after it has cooled down.
Step 2
Add 2 tbsp. of white vinegar and fill the steamer the rest of the way with water, according to the Massage Tools website. Plug it back in and allow the steam to start.
Step 3
Watch the steam come out of your steamer for about 30 seconds until the water level is lower but still above the low-level indicator. Turn the steamer off and let the solution sit in it for about 15 minutes.
Step 4
Drain the vinegar and water solution. Fill the steamer with distilled water and allow it to steam for 10 minutes. Drain and steam with distilled water again if the odor of vinegar is still present.
Tips and Warnings
- Clean your facial steamer at least once per week, depending how often you use it.
- Don't leave water or the vinegar solution in the unit overnight. It will corrode the element. Don't add essential oils directly into the water. Use distilled water to create the steam when possible.
