Before you can treat the problem, try to identify what's causing the frizz. According to beauty expert Diana Dudas G.C.H.S.R.H., the most common cause of frizzy hair is lack of moisture. Your hair might be lacking in natural oils, or it may have become dry from overprocessing and using a lot of styling products. Damaged hair tends to be frizzy, but people with naturally curly hair also tend to have frizzy hair.
Step 1
Address the problem directly. If your hair is fried from overprocessing, try letting it dry on its own instead of using a hair dryer all the time. If you can't avoid blow-drying, use a low-heat setting to minimize the damage. If you dye your hair, ask your hairdresser for a more natural dye.
Step 2
Try a hot oil treatment. You can buy special mixes at most pharmacies and beauty shops, or you can make your own by heating some olive or coconut oil. Simply place it in the microwave for about 20 seconds or until warm and then apply along the length of your hair, avoiding the scalp. Wrap your head with a towel or use a shower cap. Shampoo after 15 to 20 minutes.
Step 3
Deep condition your hair at least once a week. Use a lightweight conditioner every other time you wash your hair. Don't shampoo every day---it may dry out your hair. Salon conditioning treatments are strong and can be a good choice if you can afford them.
Step 4
Apply a silicon-based gel or a spray-on oil treatment after drying your hair. These will not get rid of the frizz permanently, but they will give your hair a smooth, silky appearance after application. Gels and sprays are often a good choice for people with curly hair who want to opt out of blow-drying.
