Facial exercises can help you achieve a more youthful appearance by reducing wrinkles and toning the muscles of the face. Most of these exercises require no special equipment and take just minutes a day. Facial exercises can be completed up to three times daily, although it's a good idea to consult your doctor and/or dermatologist to see what they recommend.
Five-Step Approach
This five-step facial exercise is recommended by WomenFitness.net to help tone the key muscles of the face for a more youthful looking appearance. The first step calls for you to scrunch your face together as if you had just sucked a lime. Next, you want to do the opposite; open your mouth and lift your eyebrows as much as possible---almost as if you had just seen a ghost. Next, begin the third step by closing your mouth, pursing your lips, and slowly pushing your mouth from left to right. The fourth step involves grinning from ear to ear as wide as possible for a few seconds before releasing. The final step is similar to step four except you should also tuck in your chin and tighten your neck muscles. Make sure to transition smoothly between each step. You can repeat this five-step facial exercise five to 10 times per session.
Eyebrow Lift
The eyebrow lift facial exercise can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead for a more youthful look. Begin this exercise by placing your three middle fingers of each hand directly above each eyebrow. Next, lift your eyebrows as high as you can while providing gentle resistance with your fingers. Do approximately 10 to 15 repetitions per session. Complete each rep slowly for optimal results.
Lip and Neck Lift
You can exercise the jawline, jowls and neck area by utilizing a simple lip and neck lift facial exercise recommended by the Ohio State University Medical Center. Start by lifting your lower lip up as far as possible in sort of a pouting expression. While holding your lip in this position for five to 10 seconds, tilt your head up slightly to work the neck muscles. After a maximum of 10 seconds, slowly bring your head back down and relax your lip. Continue doing 10 to 15 more repetitions per session.
