Skateboard trucks consist of brackets that hold the wheels and bearings to the deck. The tightness of the skateboard trucks determines the turning radius of the board when a rider leans from side to side. Too-tight trucks make it difficult to turn the board and execute tricks, while too-loose trucks give the board less control and can cause it to wobble too much when landing tricks.
Step 1
Set the skateboard on its side with the wheels turned toward you, using a tall table or waist-high workbench for maximum comfort. Access the wheels via the side to avoid damaging the grip tape on the top of the deck.
Step 2
Place a 3/8-inch socket attached to a rachet driver over the nut at the center of the skateboard truck. Set the driver to turn the socket clockwise. Rachet the driver to tighten the truck.
Step 3
Flip the board over to access the other truck and tighten it.
