Dry skin, also known as xerosis, is often associated with environmental factors such as cold, wind and excess heat. In some cases, medical conditions like diabetes and thyroid can also play a role in the development of dry skin. The application of a homemade dry skin face peel can help relieve the dry, itchy skin on your face. The World's Healthiest Foods explains that cucumbers are high in water, which makes them quite hydrating when applied to the skin topically. Using cucumber juice as a base for your homemade face peel can help your skin regain moisture.
Step 1
Pour 1/2 cup of cucumber juice into a small microwavable bowl. Add 1 tbsp. of unflavored gelatin to the cucumber juice in the bowl.
Step 2
Place the bowl in your microwave for approximately 30 seconds. Open the microwave and check that the gelatin has dissolved, completely. If not, heat for 10 more seconds.
Step 3
Remove the bowl from the microwave once the gelatin dissolves. Set the bowl of cucumber juice and gelatin in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to cool.
Step 4
Wash your face with a mild soap and warm water before applying the dry skin peel. Pat your skin dry using a soft towel.
Step 5
Apply the cucumber face peel to your skin, using your clean fingertips.
Step 6
Allow the cucumber peel to sit on your skin for approximately 20 minutes. Remove the mask by lifting up on one corner and peeling it from your face. Peeling the mask from your face is easiest starting from the forehead and pulling down toward your chin. Rinse your skin with cool water after removing the peel.
Tips and Warnings
- Instead of purchasing cucumber juice from the health food store or grocer, try making your own. Simply skin the cucumbers and run them through your juicer. Store the cucumber juice in your refrigerator for future use. Feel free to experiment with other juices that are good for dry skin, such as carrot, papaya, apple and apricot.
- Do not use warm or hot water to rinse your face after using the homemade dry skin peel. Cool water will close your pores and lock in moisture.
