Training or alignment grips place your fingers and hands in the proper position to learn the correct way to grip and swing a club sot that the correct grip becomes instinctive. Install golf alignment grips on your clubs as a temporary measure and replace them with standard grips once you become comfortable with your grip and swing.
Step 1
Protect the shaft of the club with a rubber vise-clamp protector and tighten the club in a vise. Position the club with the toe toward the ceiling. Tighten the vise slightly so the club does not shift.
Step 2
Cut the old grip off the shaft using a hook-bladed utility knife. Unwrap the old grip tape and clean the shaft with a soft cloth dampened with grip solvent.
Step 3
Measure the length of the new golf alignment grip and mark that measurement on the club shaft. Starting at the marked measurement, wrap two-sided grip tape around the shaft in a spiral pattern. Leave a slight gap between each wrap of the tape and completely cover the butt of the shaft.
Step 4
Remove the protective backing from the grip tape. Plug the vent hole in the butt of the alignment grip with a golf tee. Pour enough grip solvent into the grip to coat the interior. Plug the opening of the grip with your finger and shake the grip back and forth to make sure the grip solvent completely coats the inside of the grip.
Step 5
Place a shallow drip pan under the club shaft and pour the excess solvent from the alignment grip over the two-sided tape. Use additional grip solvent to entirely coat the tape.
Step 6
Align the grip's markings so they point up and align with the toe of the club head. Slip the grip onto the club shaft quickly and carefully. Push the grip until the butt of the grip rest against the butt of the shaft.
Step 7
Adjust the grip so its alignment marking is straight and the grip squares with the club head. Wipe away excess grip solvent and allow the grip to dry overnight.
