Cellulite is fat that takes on a dimpled appearance because it is pressed between the connective tissues of the skin. It is most apparent on women and most commonly located on the hips, thighs, rear and stomach. Getting rid of cellulite is the same as getting rid of any other type of fat, but, because the cellulite is often located in areas where fat is stored more readily, it can be difficult to diet and exercise away.

Lift Weights

According to Active.com, a Tufts University study reported that women who weight trained lost 44 percent more weight than women who only dieted. Focus on the lower body when weight lifting. The lower body is the prime area for cellulite to develop and it contains 60 percent of the body's muscle mass.

Burn Fat

To lose cellulite you have to burn fat. Aerobic exercise is the most effective way to burn fat from the body. Consider bicycling, running, using the stair climber or another exercise that emphasizes the lower body.

Increase the Intensity

Weight training and cardiovascular exercise is the only way to exercise cellulite away. For the best results, do both activities at a vigorous intensity level. Trudging along on the stair climber, resting your weight on the arm rests, does not burn the same number of calories as climbing at a brisk pace without touching the machine with your hands. Doing body weight squats and lunges does not build the same type of firm muscles as squatting and lunging with heavy weights. For best results, make each workout count.
