Done to reverse the signs of aging, a face lift---or rhytidectomy---reduces the appearance of wrinkles and improves the aged look of a face that has been impacted by stress, environmental causes and time. Nowadays, there are many options for face lift candidates, ranging from simple lifts done to target a problem area to invasive procedures that all but turn back time.
Lower Facelift
A lower face lift---which uses S lift face lift or SMAS face lift techniques---improves the appearance of the lower third of the face by tightening facial structures that have relaxed, resulting in a fleshy-looking neck or jowls. The procedure is done making a small incision in front of the ear down to behind the ear or by an endoscopic technique in which endoscopes (cameras) are inserted through small incisions. Skin is separated from tissue, fat and extra skin is removed, muscles are tightened and skin is smoothed. A "standard" face lift also can be done to elevate cheeks.
Mid Face Lift
A mid face lift is performed to improve signs of aging that result in sagging and bagging, tired eyelids and cheeks. The procedure is done by making small, deep incisions in the muscle tissue (an endoscope can be used to assist); muscles and fat are then altered to create a smooth, tight and youthful appearance. Incisions can be made one of two ways: via the lower lash line (and, possibly, also the nasolabial fold) or at the temples behind the hairline, allowing for a more dramatic vertical and diagonal lift.
Thread Face Lift
A thread face lift is an alternative to a traditional face lift and used to reduce signs of aging that result in sagging cheeks as well as slackening in the jaw-line and neck. Considered less invasive than traditional techniques, a thread face lift is done by inserting thin threads into the skin tissue through small incisions near the target area. The threads are then used to pull and smooth the face. Usually, anesthesia is not required.
Mini Face Lift
Sometimes called a "weekend" face lift, a mini face lift---which targets droopiness and sagging in specific areas---can be performed quickly through endoscopic or a non-endoscopic techniques with minimal recovery time. Whether endoscopic or non-endoscopic in approach, the surgeon makes small cuts near the area to be treated and removes fat and reshapes muscles to create the desired effect.
