A labret piercing is a piercing of the lower lip, usually placed lower than a traditional lip piercing. It may be centered, placed to one side, or done in pairs. A pair of labret piercing may be called "snake bites" or "spider bites," depending on how far apart the piercings are. A labret piercing should always be done by a professional piercer, and you shouldn't change your jewelry until the piercing is fully healed. If you have any trouble or pain, return to the piercer for assistance.
Step 1
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, and dry them well.
Step 2
Sit down in front of a mirror and place a towel on the counter or table in front of you. If part of the stud falls, the towel will catch it.
Step 3
Use your top front teeth to bite down firmly on the back-plate of the labret stud, to hold it in place. Avoid biting too hard so you don't damage your teeth.
Step 4
Unscrew the ball or spike on the front part of the stud by turning it to the left.
Step 5
Remove the stud and replace it with the new one. Insert the new stud from the inside of your lip, using the mirror if necessary to help place it.
Step 6
Place the ball or spike for the new stud at the end of the stud, and turn it to the right until it's tight.
Tips and Warnings
- Only a qualified piercer with the appropriate tools should replace a labret ring.
