The Dexter Shoe Company has produced bowling shoes and other footwear since 1957. After extensive use, the soles of your bowling shoes can gather dirt or oily buildup from the surface of bowling lanes. Dirty bowling shoe soles can interfere with your approach and slide and prevent you from bowling consistently. Clean the soles of your bowling shoes regularly to ensure that dirty shoes do not interfere with your performance.

Step 1

Dip a clean, soft towel in a bucket of warm water.

Step 2

Ring the cloth out so that it remains damp but not sopping wet.

Step 3

Rub the damp cloth against the sole of each shoe and the sliding pad on your sliding shoe to remove any dirt, grit or oil.

Step 4

Dry the soles of the shoes thoroughly with a clean, dry towel.

Tips and Warnings

  • If a damp cloth does not clean your shoes well enough, add a few drops of gentle hand soap or laundry detergent to a damp towel. Clean the soles of the shoes and then wipe away all traces of the soap or detergent with a clean towel. During a bowling game, wipe the soles of your shoes with a clean cloth to remove large particles or drops of moisture that might interfere with your sliding. To keep your bowling shoes from getting dirtier, don't wear them outside the bowling lanes. Watch where you step in crowded commercial bowling alleys to avoid stepping in spilled food or drinks.
  • Abrasive cleaning products could damage your shoes or leave residue on the surfaces of the soles. Do not use abrasive products to clean your shoes.
