While there are numerous medical treatments for hair loss and burning sensations on the scalp---most commonly caused by bacteria buildup or hair styles that cause stress to the hair follicles---these treatments are often expensive and have potential side effects. However, there are some natural home remedies that can help fight hair loss and burning scalp as well. These treatments haven't been approved by the FDA though, so consult your doctor before trying them on yourself.
Warm Olive Oil, Lime Juice and Cinnamon Powder
According to Jethro Kloss, author of "Back to Eden: The Classic Guide to Herbal Medicine, Natural Foods, and Home Remedies Since 1939," a mixture of warm olive oil, lime juice and cinnamon powder can be applied to the scalp to help stop hair loss and burning sensations on the scalp. To make this mixture, combine ¼ cup warm olive oil, the juice of ½ lime and ½ tsp. cinnamon powder in a container and stir to combine. In the shower, wet your hair and pour the mixture over your wet hair and scalp, gently massage the mixture in for 2 to 3 minutes. Leave the mixture on for 10 minutes before rinsing with warm water and washing with your regular shampoo and conditioner. This treatment can be used once per day as long as it doesn't cause any irritation or redness. Unused portions of the mixture should be kept in the refrigerator and warmed up before the next use.
Black Pepper and Sesame Oil
According to Vasant Lad, author of "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies," a mixture of black pepper and sesame oil can be applied to the scalp as a topical treatment for burning and hair loss. To make and use this mixture, combine 2 Tbsp freshly ground black pepper with ¼ cup sesame oil and stir to combine. Pour the mixture over the scalp in the shower and massage the scalp for 4 to 5 minutes. Rinse the scalp and hair with cool water and wash with a mild, moisturizing shampoo and conditioner before allowing your hair to dry naturally. This treatment can be used every day as long as it doesn't bother your scalp or skin further. Unused portions can be stored in a cool, dark place for two weeks.
Anise Seed Essential Oil and Sweet Almond Oil
According to Colleen Kaye Dodt, author of "The Essential Oils Book: Creating Personal Blends for Mind & Body," a combination of anise seed essential oil and sweet almond oil can be applied to the scalp and roots of the hair to stop burning and hair loss. To use this combination, combine ½ tsp. anise seed essential oil with 1/8 cup sweet almond oil and stir it to combine the ingredients. Gently massage the mixture into the hair and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes in the shower before rinsing and shampooing with your regular shampoo and conditioner. This treatment can be used once per day as long as it doesn't cause further irritation. Unused portions or portions made in advance can be kept in a cool, dark place for up to 30 days.
