While there are many over-the-counter and prescription products designed to remedy toothaches, many people find that these products do not help their particular tooth pain or would prefer to use a more natural home remedy. There are many home remedies for toothache, and many of them call for 3 percent hydrogen peroxide instead of 35 percent hydrogen peroxide, which is not usually meant for internal use. While these remedies are generally considered safe, you should consult your doctor before using any of them, as they have not been approved by the FDA.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Distilled Water

According to Jethro Kloss, author of "Back to Eden: The Classic Guide to Herbal Medicine, Natural Foods, and Home Remedies Since 1939," a mixture of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and distilled water can be used to help get rid of toothaches. To prepare this mixture, combine 1 part water with 3 parts hydrogen peroxide in a small container and shake thoroughly to combine. Swish about two tablespoons around in your mouth for 4 to 5 minutes before spitting the mixture out. Brush your teeth with your regular toothpaste after using this treatment if the taste is unpleasant. You can use this twice per day in the morning and evening as long as it doesn't cause any irritation inside your mouth, and you can store larger quantities for up to seven days in a cool, dark place.

Hydrogen Peroxide, Tea Tree Essential Oil and Almond Oil

According to Bill Gottlieb, author of "Alternative Cures: More than 1,000 of the Most Effective Natural Home Remedies," a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, tea tree essential oil and almond oil can help cure a toothache. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tsp. 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, ½ tsp. tea tree essential oil and 2 tbsp. almond oil in a small container and shake vigorously to combine. Swish the mixture around in your mouth for 2 to 3 minutes before spitting it out and brushing your teeth with regular toothpaste or using mouthwash to remove the taste. This treatment can be used twice per day as long as it doesn't cause any other irritation, and larger portions will keep in a cool, dark and dry place for up to two weeks.

Hydrogen Peroxide, Peppermint Essential Oil and Jojoba Oil

According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy," a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, peppermint essential oil and jojoba oil can be used to get rid of toothaches. To make and use this mixture, combine ½ tsp. hydrogen peroxide, ½ tsp. peppermint essential oil and 2 tbsp. jojoba oil in a cup or bottle and stir to combine. Swish the mixture around in your mouth for 4 to 5 minutes before rinsing with cool water and brushing your teeth with regular toothpaste. This remedy can be used twice per day in the morning and evening as long as it doesn't cause any further irritation. Unused portions can be stored in a cool, dark place for as long as two weeks.
