For many people, the bedroom is a haven--a place to escape from the stress of life and relax for a good night's sleep. Having a clean, organized room can make it much easier to get into a restful state of find. It can be difficult to relax in a bedroom that's dirty and packed full of clutter. That's why it's a good idea to give your bedroom a good cleaning about once a week. No expert skills are required. Any cleaning novice can get the job done to keep the bedroom inviting.
Step 1
Pick up any stray articles of clothing and out-of-place items and put them where they belong. This will help de-clutter the room and make it look organized.
Step 2
Strip the sheets and pillowcases from the bed and wash and dry them. Either replace them with fresh bed linens or wait until they are dry to remake the bed. Bed linens should be replaced at least every two weeks, according to Good Housekeeping.
Step 3
Empty the trash can in your bedroom.
Step 4
Dust surfaces, including the dresser and nightstand, as well as the headboard and footboard of your bed with a damp cloth or a dusting wand. If you have blinds, they should be regularly dusted with a dusting wand.
Step 5
Vacuum the bedroom floor if it is carpeted. If you have wood or tile floors, you can use a broom to sweep it clean.
Step 6
Wash the windows and any other glass surfaces such as mirrors with glass cleaner and a cloth.
Tips and Warnings
- Try to place dirty clothes in the hamper as soon as you take them off each day so you do not have clothes strewn about the room each time you clean it. Dust items that cannot easily be wiped down by using a hair dryer set on low. Between cleanings, you can make your bedroom feel neat and organized by simply making the bed each morning. If you want to add a nice fragrance to your bed linens, add bath salts to the final wash cycle, Good Housekeeping recommends.
