A cold is a virus that thrives in your nose or throat, causing you to feel congested, achy and weak. Though there's no cure for the common cold, acupressure may help stimulate the body to help you get rid of the virus more quickly, allowing you to feel better faster.

Bridge of the Nose

According to acupuncture.com, one pressure point to relieve congestion is in the indentation of the eye sockets--where the top the nose joins with the bottom of the eyebrows. Applying pressure to this area will help relieve colds, sinus congestion, headaches and help tired eyes.

Cheeks

Another point to relieve a stuffy nose or head congestion is at the bottom of your cheek bones, directly in line with your pupils. Acupuncture.com says applying pressure here can also bring relief to eye pain and discomfort caused by a cold or allergy.

Hands

It's not necessary to apply pressure to the face to relieve sinus congestion. Acupressure can also be applied to the hands. Press in the webbing between the thumb and index finger, at the top of the muscle when you bring the thumb and index finger close together. You can also press just behind your thumbnail, on the side opposite your fingers. Another option on your hands is to squeeze your thumb and forefinger together, forming a ridge above the thumb. The pressure point is in the middle of that ridge, above the end of the crease formed by forefinger and thumb.

Arm

According to Stanford University, there are also pressure points on the arm. To find one, bend your arm and place your hand to your shoulder. Then use your other hand to put your finger on the crease of the arm. Open your arm and put pressure on that spot.

Feet

Applying pressure to the feet can also help relieve sinus pain and congestion. Apply pressure under the nail of the second toe, on the side opposite your big toe.

Warning

Pregnant women should contact their doctor before using any type of acupressure, since applying pressure to certain points may cause early contractions.
