A common complaint among women is a dull, lifeless complexion. With a little effort, skin can become vibrant and the envy of all your girlfriends. You do not need to spend loads of money at the spa or dermatologist's office; rather, everything can be done in the comfort of your own home.
Step 1
Use a mild cleanser on your skin twice a day: in the morning and before bed. Do not go to sleep with makeup on, as this will penetrate into the pours and can cause breakouts. The mild cleanser will get rid of any excess dirt and makeup left on the skin. Lightly rub your wet face with the cleanser and try to use your middle and ring finger, which will allow for a gentler touch. Pat your skin dry with a towel. Also, do not use hot water, which can scald the skin.
Step 2
Find a good microdermabrasion to use. While you can go to a medical spa or cosmetic surgeon to have this performed, you can purchase kits in the drugstore or online. Brands like Mary Kay, Philosophy and L'Oreal, among others, offer these.
Microdermabrasion is a skincare technique that buffs away a layer of skin through tiny grains. This upper layer is what has the fine lines, crow's feet and blemishes. Use this treatment no less than once a month for best results. It takes just minutes to do.
Step 3
Apply a daily moisturizer with SPF. Nothing kills a beautiful complexion like sun spots and redness caused by too much sun exposure. A moisturizer will not only brighten skin by keeping it supple and hydrated, it can also protect against harmful UV rays if you look for one with at least SPF 15.
Step 4
Treat your skin with a serum. Available at drugstores or cosmetic counters in any mall, serums offer a significant supply of pro-vitamins and moisturizing qualities. They also improve the texture of skin, taking away that dull, dry complexion. They can be a bit pricey, but a little bit goes a long way. You can find different types, such as anti-aging, oily skin or combination skin. Choose the one most appropriate for your skin type and use it once to twice a day.
Step 5
Change your liquid foundation to mineral foundation. Free from preservatives, talc, oil, waxes and fragrances, this foundation is merely a powder that is so pure even skin sensitive to breakouts can take it. It easily covers blemishes without that cakey feeling or effect. You can also match colors of powders to find your perfect shade, so you will not be left with a makeup line. Also, mineral powder leaves your natural skin showing through without that matte look.
Tips and Warnings
- Leave your microdermabrasion kit in the shower so you will remember to use it. If strapped for cash, use a serum only at night to make the bottle last longer.
- Using a moisturizer with an SPF does not mean you are safe from the sun. Always limit your time in direct sunlight.
