Ramdev yoga focuses on breathing techniques, as opposed to challenging physical poses in order to achieve healing effects for various physical ailments. At a public Ramdev yoga event covered by the Dallas Morning News in July of 2010, participants claimed that Ramdev yoga has healed ailments such as diabetes, depression, obesity, allergies and sleeping problems. Despite these claims, there is no scientific evidence that Ramdev yoga heals any diseases.

Bhastrika

This Ramdev exercise requires a sustained breathing rhythm along with visualization techniques. This exercise is intended to relieve skin problems including leucoderma and discoloration from burns. Start by taking a deep breath and releasing in an effortless manner. Breathe in until your lungs are filled up and exhale until the air is completely out of your lungs. Find a steady rhythm for your breath and perform for 5 minutes if you consider yourself to be relatively healthy. If you are ailing, repeat for another 5 minutes. While you breathe, visualize the energy of the cosmos entering your body and the poisons in your body leaving through your exhalation. More evidence is needed before any of these claims are medically proven.

Kapalbhati

Swami Ramdev, the creator of Ramdev yoga, claims that this exercise helps maintain mental well being, and can control diabetes through the stimulation of insulin production. He also maintains that this exercise helps to relieve backache and helps purify you blood, which can relieve eczema. To begin, take air in and jerk it out by clinching the muscles in your core. Repeat this motion for 5 minutes to complete one set. Do 3 sets per day if you are healthy for a total of 15 minutes. If you suffer from a chronic disease, do 6 sets per day. More evidence is needed before any of these claims are medically proven.

Anulom Vilom

The benefits of this exercise include the reduction of high blood pressure, depression, migrane pain, asthma, and allergies. In order to begin anulom vilom, hold your right nasal with your right thumb and breathe in through your left nostril. Then remove your thumb from your right nostril and place your middle and ring finger over your left nostril. Breathe out through your right nostril. To complete a breathing cycle, do the opposite by breathing in through your right nostril and exhaling through your left. Repeat this cycle for 10 minutes. You should not rush this breath, and take a break whenever you feel it necessary. More evidence is needed before any of these claims are medically proven.
