When your hair is dry, humidity may make it look even worse. When dry hair is exposed to humidity, it may become a frizzy mess. If your hair has been exposed to harsh chemicals, like the chlorine in a swimming pool, it may become dry and damaged. In order to treat your frizzy hair, add additional moisture before you leave the house and limit your exposure to drying chemicals.

Step 1

Mash together an old, ripe banana and an old, ripe avocado to make your own moisturizing hair conditioner, says hairdresser Joanne Harris in "The Doctors Book of Home Remedies." Slather the mixture on your hair after shampooing, then leave the mixture on your hair for 15 minutes before rinsing it out.

Step 2

Trim your hair every six weeks, says hairstylist Alan Tosler of tosler.davis salon in New York City. Trimming will remove split ends, which can make frizzy hair look even worse.

Step 3

Rinse your hair with 4 oz. of apple cider vinegar to clarify the hair and remove any styling buildup that may be preventing moisture from entering the hair. After rinsing with apple cider vinegar, rinse your hair with cool water.

Step 4

Wash and blow dry your hair every few days. Washing and blow drying your hair every day will dry hair out and strip away its natural oils.

Step 5

Coat your hair with mayonnaise for an hour, then rinse it out in the shower. Mayonnaise contains natural oils and fats that will penetrate the hair and prevent frizziness.

Tips and Warnings

  • To prevent frizziness, wear a bathing cap when swimming in chlorinated water.
  • Consult a doctor if your frizzy hair is accompanied by any additional symptoms.
