Lumbar degenerative disc disease is a fairly common condition as people get older. Those who have participated in contact sports, been in an automobile accident or simply as a result of aging often have problems with their lower back. After getting checked out by your physician, there are many exercises that can be done in order to restore movement and range to your lower back and spine.
Bridge Exercise
Lie on your back with your knees bent at a 45-degree angle. Put your arms on the ground next to your hips. Press your hips up and hold them about 8 inches off the ground for five seconds. Return to your original position and then repeat the exercise about 15 times.
Exercise Ball Stretch
Get on your stomach on an exercise ball. Put your hands on the side of the ball and roll until only your head and neck are over the center of the ball. Roll back up so that your midsection is over the middle of the ball. Do this 10 times, take a 30-second break and repeat the set.
Wall Pushups
Stand about 14 to 18 inches from a wall. Put your hands up at shoulder height. Bend your elbows so your chin is touching the wall. Press out with your arms until they are straight. Bend your elbows again until your chin is touching the wall. Repeat this exercise 10 times. Take a 30-second break and repeat the set.
