Body oils provide rich, luxurious moisture to thirsty skin. They're typically void of the chemical components and additives that lotions contain, making them safe for people with sensitive skin. Aside from moisturizing, body oils fragrance your skin. They may also provide health benefits if they're made with essential oils. Certain oils can have beneficial and healing skin properties or elevate your mood, according to AromaWeb. You can make your own body oils at home using natural ingredients and custom healing or scent profiles.
Step 1
Place the funnel into the top of a dark glass bottle. Dark glass helps protect the oil from light exposure and makes your body oil last longer.
Step 2
Pour 1 1/2 cups of carrier oil into the bottle. A carrier oil is a neutral, nourishing base oil that helps disperse very concentrated essential oils. Use one kind of oil or use 1/2 cup of three of your favorite skin carrier oils. Any combination of liquid oils will do.
Step 3
Add 5 to 15 drops of your favorite essential oils to the bottle using a dropper. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics recommends adding 3 drops of ylang ylang essential oil, 2 drops of geranium oil and 3 drops of orange oil for a mood-boosting effect. Use any combination of oils you find pleasing.
Step 4
Add an optional small amount of powdered glitter or mineral shimmer to enhance your skin's natural glow, The Green Beauty Guide recommends.
Step 5
Screw the cap onto your glass bottle and invert it several times to make sure the oils blend well. Set the blend aside for one day to one week to let the scents develop. The longer the oil sits, the stronger the scent will be.
Step 6
Use by adding about a teaspoon of oil at at time to your palms. Rub them together then rub the oil on your body. Use as a massage oil, fragrance oil or moisturizing oil. Store in a cool, dark place to prevent the oil from going rancid.
