Dry skin is a common problem and occurs more frequently during the winter. The skin feels tight and can have a scaly, dusty appearance;it may also crack and feel itchy. Areas prone to dryness include your arms, legs, back and abdomen. But there are several home remedies found in most kitchens that can treat it.
Rehydration Bath
Soak in the bath for 15 minutes to rehydrate the body. Do not bathe everyday; however, once or twice a week is recommended. Add a few drops of essential oil, such as lavender, into the bath water. Avoid hot water; use lukewarm or cool water.
Aloe Vera Gel
Apply aloe vera gel to the body after bathing. The gel will keep the water locked int your skin, keeping the body hydrated.
Olive Oil Mist
Add one tbsp olive oil with one cup hot water. Mix together in a water bottle mister. Lightly spray onto the body while in the shower, then rub into your skin. Clean the shower well when finished, as the oil may make it slippery and hazardous.
Avocado and Honey Mask
Mash one avocado with one tsp honey. Apply to facial area and allow to set for 15 minutes. Wash off the mask area in kitchen sink to avoid clogging other drains.
Oatmeal Mask
Cook one cup of oatmeal; add one teaspoon of honey. Apply the mix to your face, massaging it into the skin. Allow to sit for 10 minutes, and then rinse off.
